Many users on the League Lab platform elect to allow Substitute Players to play in their leagues, players that aren’t on any team’s roster but can come play for a game or two in a pinch. However, these players still need to be tracked in order to make sure they’ve signed the waiver, have paid if they need to, etc.
A “Substitute League” solves these problems by providing a resource for payers to sign up, sign the waiver, and pay (if you choose) to be in your leagues.
- From the Leagues and Tournaments tab, click “Create a New League or Tournament”.
- Select the Sport, then name the League “Register as a [insert sport here] Sub!”, and click Continue.
- DO NOT FILL OUT ANY MORE OF THE LEAGUE SETTINGS. Once you reach the following screen, navigate to the Leagues and Tournaments tab:
- Above your main display on the Leagues and Tournaments page, you should now see a little yellow warning sign that says “1 Incomplete League”. This is the system telling you that a League set-up was abandoned midway through. Normally this would be a good reminder to go back in and finish filling out that League, but in this case we want to leave it alone.
- In the search bar in the top right, search for your League’s name (ex. “Register as a Flag Football Sub!”). This will let you access your league in its unfinished state without being prompted to set everything else up. From this main display, click the “Add a Division” button on the right hand side.
- Name your division something like “Sub Player”. If your Leagues have a minimum age requirement, make sure and specify that here. If the Sport the player wants to sub for is gender-exclusive (ex. If your Basketball leagues are Men’s-only), make sure to denote that here as well.
- Navigate back to the main league display, and click the “Edit” button on the right hand next to the Divisions section. In your URL you should see a string of numbers like so: “/league/#####/setup”. That string of numbers is your Division Number, which will be used in creating a link to your Sub League.
- With this division set in place, you can now generate a link that will allow Sub Players to register for your “Register as a Sub” league. That link is formatted as follows:
- One way to promote your Substitute signups is to create a Custom Page called “Register as a Sub”, and provide the links to each of your different Sport Sub Leagues from there, as well as your general Substitute policy.
